COMPLETE LABORATORY SERVICES
Offered at Both Locations
The laboratory at Edina Family
Physicians is CLIA certified and COLA inspected.
Our highly qualified laboratory staff are experienced, friendly
and compassionate to all individual needs. Both of our locations
offer moderate complexity testing. Our 5301 Vernon Ave. S.
location is equipped with state of the art analyzers to perform
all of the chemistry profiles in-house. If you require more
complex or specialized testing, we use Quest Diagnostics as our
Edina Family Physicians offers "walk-in" lab services from 8:00
a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday with no appointment
necessary. A physician's order is required for all testing.
Patients can wait comfortably in our new lab waiting area which
is equipped with plenty of seating, flat screen television, and
updated reading material.
Several of the routine tests ordered by our physicians require
patients to be "fasting". If you are fasting, please remember
nothing to eat or drink except water or black coffee for 12
hours prior to your sample being taken. Our technicians are
often able to draw samples for fasting patients prior to your
physical exams for your convenience.
Some of the tests that require fasting are:
Lipid Panel (HDL, LDL and Triglycerides)
Glucose (Blood Sugar)
Complete Metabolic Panel
Our friendly laboratory staff understands the importance of
obtaining fast results for any tests that may be ordered by your
physician. They work very hard to have their in-house testing
completed as quickly as possible. We believe the turn-around
time with our reference laboratory is also very fast - in most
cases within two days.
INR - COUMADIN CHECKS:
We offer walk-in service for your INR or Coumadin lab
test checks. This means that you are not required to schedule an
appointment in advance. However, your physician does request
that once your test has been drawn, that you remain in the lab
waiting area for your results. Your results will be given to you
physician who will spend a Brief Office Visit with you to review
them along with your medication level. Your doctor will then
make any adjustments needed to your prescription at that time.
Depending upon your insurance coverage, you may have a copay
associated with your brief office visit.
Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN)
This form may be provided to you for signature prior to your
laboratory tests being performed. Medicare, Medical Assistance,
and other insurance plans may not pay for the tests your
physician needs to have completed. Whether your insurance will
cover the test is not an indication of whether the test is
necessary or not. Your physician may request certain testing to
monitor your medications or to help diagnose your condition.
The purpose of the ABN form is to help you make in
informed choice about whether or not you want to receive a
laboratory test -- knowing that you may have to pay for the test
yourself. Your signed ABN form will be scanned into your
electronic medical record.
